It all began in 1923, when Kuhlmann Enterprises founded the “Compagnie des Superphosphates”. This marked the dawn of a new era in the Moroccan chemical industry, laying the foundation stone for what would become “SCE Group”.
In 1946, the “Compagnie des Superphosphates” was transformed into SCE Group. This major turning point extended the company’s influence to the fertilizer sector, consolidating its position as a leader in the chemical industry.
1950 marks an important milestone with SCE’s listing on the Casablanca stock exchange, a recognition of its growing economic stature and immense potential.
In 1981, SCE joins forces with Coates Lorilleux (Sun Chemical) to create the Lorilleux Maroc JV, broadening its scope to include the inks sector. This collaboration embodies the Group’s spirit of innovation and expansion.
The spinning-off of the fertilizer business in 1998, followed by the creation of the Hydro Agri Trade Maroc JV with Norsk Hydro (Yara), marks a key stage in the diversification and specialization of SCE Group.
A crucial step 2003 saw a Leveraged Management Buy-Out (LMBO), underlining SCE’s ability to reinvent itself and adapt to market changes.
In 2004, “Agri Trade Maroc” became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SCE, strengthening its position in the fertilizer sector and its commitment to Moroccan agriculture.
SCE’s public offer of withdrawal in 2014 marks a strategic reorientation, reflecting its desire to focus on its long-term goals and vision for the future.
2018 is a particularly significant year, with the demerger of SCE and the creation of SCE Chemicals, SCE Participations, and SCE Immobilier. This strategic division represents a new era for the Group, diversifying its activities and strengthening its presence in various key sectors of the economy.
